Case study: TRANSFORM 2021 - Sprintr

The brief

Client: Green Building Council of Australia
Event: TRANSFORM 2021
Date: 17-18 March 2021
Venue: Online with a bespoke broadcast studio set up at International Towers in Barangaroo, Sydney

Our team worked with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to deliver their flagship conference in a fully virtual format. TRANSFORM brings together the organisation’s members and broader stakeholders to explore and discuss the major drivers and influences in the world of sustainability and the built environment.

The solution

For something a little different, our production partner AV1 transported a full studio setup to an empty office space on the same floor as GBCA’s offices in International Towers in Barangaroo, Sydney. Creating a charming set with plenty of greenery and foliage, a large part of the conference was filmed there. Content from the studio was interspersed with live crosses to speakers in other locations – including overseas – sponsor pre-records, breakouts and round tables, most of which were streamed via EventsAIR’s OnAIR platform, managed by Sprintr.

Around 450 people attended the event from some of Australia’s largest infrastructure, construction and property companies as well as from universities, government agencies, professional services and other industries.

With up to five concurrent streams running at once, the Sprintr team was on hand to solve any technical questions that popped up, as well as having enough operators on site to monitor each stream and the output into the OnAIR platform.

We also ensured all of the session recordings were added back into the platform after they were delivered live so delegates could come back and watch any they had missed. And as an extension to the conference, the GBCA ran a number of sessions throughout the rest of March which we also added into the OnAIR platform so delegates could come back post-event to watch any conference content. All recordings were supplied to the GBCA to use internally or for future marketing activities.

The client perspective

“We really valued the flexibility and convenience of having the studio set up at our office tower. The quality of the studio set up as well as the team that came onsite to deliver the event was amazing,” says Rebecca Pettit, Operations Lead for Industry Development at the Green Building Council of Australia.

“Everyone knew exactly what they were doing,” she says, calling the team a “well-oiled machine”.

“They’re just ahead of it – it was great. And even if something happened and someone walked out at the wrong time or something, they’d just go with it.”

She says having all the content available to the delegates via the OnAIR platform post-event was a “really big bonus”.

She thinks the conference is likely to be hybrid in 2022, as this is becoming a broad expectation due to the pandemic. She says one of the advantages of a virtual or hybrid format is the wider breadth of speakers available for the conference if they don’t have to fly talent in from overseas – which also fits nicely with their sustainable ethos.
